Supporting Indigenous Mental Health & Wellness

At Next Chapters Wellness Society, we believe that mental health support should be accessible to everyone, especially those who have been historically underserved. Our mission is to provide affordable and culturally informed mental health care, ensuring that no one is left behind on their healing journey.

A Commitment Rooted in Experience & Respect

With over 30 years of nursing experience, including work in Fort Simpson, NWT, inner-city detox centers, and Indigenous community health programs, Paige has witnessed firsthand the challenges Indigenous individuals face in accessing mental health support. Mac, with over 2 decades of experience working with Indigenous communities across Canada, has also dedicated his career to helping Indigenous youth and adults overcome trauma and addiction. Their combined expertise has shaped our commitment to holistic, trauma-informed care that respects Indigenous traditions, values, and healing practices.

Indigenous-Centered Programs & Services

Community Outreach & Crisis Support

Paige helped develop an Indigenous street outreach program in collaboration with city police, EMS, and emergency departments, providing Indigenous women in crisis with access to detox beds, emergency care, warm meals, clean clothing, counseling, and pathways to employment.

Mental Health & Addiction Support

Paige has worked in inner-city detox centers and provided mental health care in remote Northern communities, offering vital support to individuals struggling with trauma and addiction.

Mac spent 3 years in Yukon Territory and 6 years in Saskatchewan working with First Nations and Indigenous youth, providing one-on-one counseling, group counseling, and psycho-educational teaching on addiction recovery. He also worked for 3 years at a residential treatment center in the Okanagan, helping Indigenous clients navigate their healing journey.

In Nunavut, Mac provided one-on-one counseling for 2 years, creating and facilitating group counseling programs focused on overcoming addictive thinking and behavior.

Partnerships with First Nations Communities

We currently partner with the Ktunaxa First Nations band in BC, supporting band employees in accessing counseling and return-to-work programs that prioritize both mental health and long-term stability.

Cultural Competency & Safety

Both Paige and Mac have taken extensive training in Indigenous cultural safety, with Mac completing Indigenous Cultural Safety Training through Interior Health to ensure that our services are respectful, inclusive, and attuned to the cultural and historical contexts of Indigenous healing.

Building a Future of Healing & Support

At Next Chapters Wellness Society, we are committed to expanding our Indigenous-focused programs and securing funding to increase accessibility to culturally relevant mental health services. By partnering with Indigenous communities, leaders, and organizations, we aim to create sustainable support systems that honor Indigenous healing traditions while providing modern mental health resources.

If you are a community leader, grant provider, or organization looking to support Indigenous mental wellness, we invite you to connect with us. Together, we can break barriers, foster healing, and create brighter futures.
